In 1877, twenty-two members from the “Nineteenth Street” Baptist Church formed the Berean Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Many members of this church were some of the most influential people of the city in their day.
On August 13, 1997, a little less than one hundred members of the original Berean Baptist Church left and formed the Historic Berean Baptist Church (HBBC) and officially incorporated it in DC on August 21, 1997.
Led by the chairman of Deacons, the name represents the historical members of the Berean church. The word ”Berean” comes from the Biblical book of Acts 17:11-12, where the Apostle Paul met a noble people from Berea that had a readiness of mind and that searched the Scriptures daily.
The church has gone through some tough times but has weathered the storm. It has a small congregation seeking to grow and serve the community with its new pastor, Reverend Kenneth V. Blanchard, Sr.
If you are looking to strengthen your relationship with Christ, learn the Bible, and improve your life, then come and grow with us.
